Do you know the latest buzzword "Mori Girl"? It’s a term that got created in the mixi community, a huge social networking system and one of the most visited Japanese sites in the Internet. The general definition would be a "a girl who seems to be/live in a forest", describing a girl who would fit more into a forest rather than into a city.
In mixi you can find an endless list of more detailed definitions submitted by the users, but the most comprehensible feature would be the girl’s clothes. "She has to like fashion that’s natural, but also a bit quirky" or "She wears a lot of dresses that have a loose or comfortable feeling to them", to name a few of the opinions. The difficulty is that the girl should like "natural clothes", but that doesn’t mean she has to be an absolute lover of nature. Fashion is the key point here and I could tell you more than 100 more specific outfits and colors listed in mixi, but of course the character plays a big role, too. There has to be a gently and fluffily atmosphere around here, a cute appearance is much more important than being beautiful or pretty. A light skin also favors the image, as well as your favorite seasons, hobbies, how you react to certain situations (e.g. finding a cute book in a bookstore), if you cry during sad movies and so on…
Now to the actual ranking. Goo always follows the trend and so they asked their users about the top "mori girls" in the entertainment industry. An overwhelming amount of people (almost 50% of all voters) voted for actress Aoi Yuu, resulting in a clear and unchallenged 1st place. This year the magazine "spoon." released a special issue called "Mori Girl AtoZ" in order to tell people about this new term and the girl on the cover was no other than Aoi Yuu. That special issue was so popular that they even decided to release a second edition in September, there is no better proof for the recent popularity of "mori girls." Back to Aoi Yuu, there is probably nobody who can deny that certain atmosphere around her and the certain style of clothes she likes to wear during work and in private. Everything about her simply feels so comfortable and at ease.
Miyazaki Aoi got the 2nd place in this ranking. Many people give her that image because of her cute and soft image in her Tokyo Metro or Aflac commercials. She had the same image in a lot of other movies and doramas, but there is one significant role that broke the image. As you know, she had the starring role in NHK’s "Atsuhime" and delivered an impressive performance, not as some cute princess, but as a really dignified Atsuhime. Anyway, let’s check out the whole top 20.

I kinda agree on the first 3. Yuu, Aoi, Juri. They somehow have this kind of comfortable, natural feelings…
MEG ♥ I agree with Aoi Yuu and Aoi Miyazaki, too. Especially Miyazaki in Tada, Kimi wo Aishiteru. :3
Lol, Mori Girl… Funny but cute. Anyhow I agree with most of the list. Nice to see MEG at #20 too!
Also an interesting thing to note… correlation between acting abilities and Mori Girl-ness?! as evidenced by the first three Mori Girls.
