Actress Ueto Aya gets kidnapped — in the upcoming web movie of navigation system maker ECLIPSE.

 

Rather than making some plain commercial, ECLIPSE decided to market their new model "AVN 7500" with a suspense web movie starring Ueto Aya. The movie is titled "Ueto Aya Kidnapping!?" and will have a total of 4 short episodes that are going to be released on their special website starting May 21, 2010. They will get released one by one with the last one becoming available sometime mid-June.

 

Ueto is going to play as herself and gets kidnapped by a mysterious man in a waiting room. Her manager and several detective, one played by Michael Tomioka, now try to corner the criminal and frequently rely on the AVN 7500 while following the traces. Why did she get kidnapped and what will happen to her? Looks like it's going to be a fun little story. Oricon now got a hold of Ueto and talked with her about how it was to film this web movie. — Is there any difference between filming a web movie and filming a dorama or movie?

[Ueto] Not at all. The atmosphere, the tight schedule, the determination, everything was the same. The only difference might be that you had to try to exaggerate your actions more, since it's going to be screened at a smaller size in the web.

 

— How was the filming experience this time?

[Ueto] It was the first time that I've filming something for the web with so much devotion behind it. The large amount of cameras and the high quality standards, there was almost no difference from filming a commercial for TV. I felt really nervous the whole time.

 

— You are playing yourself?

[Ueto] In commercials I am always acting as "Ueto Aya", unless there is some special setting, so there is actually no difference. I played the way I always do.

 

— In Episode 01 there is one scene where you are reading a magazine in the waiting room. What do you usually do while you are waiting in your room?

[Ueto] I do various of things. Reading magazines, writing letters, watching TV. I also write things for my fan club. I'm not the type who tries to get some rest during my free time, so I don't use the time to sleep. I always find something to do.

 

— You are still writing letters?

[Ueto] It might actually be my most used way of communication. If I don't necessarily need to remember what I've written for the time being, I always resort to letters. Whenever I want to tell something to someone from the staff that always supports me or whenever I have something important to say to a friend… . You can put a lot more details and meanings into a letter than a mail.

 

— You are probably very busy filming doramas and commercials and yet people are still always surprised by the "always vigorous Aya" they see at the sets. How do you do that?

[Ueto] I just don't like to be asked about the reason behind my mood when I'm feeling gloomy (laughs). When I show that I'm in high spirits, people around me usually start to brighten up as well and that's naturally the most enjoyable situation you want to be in.

 

— What do you do to change your mood when you are gloomy?

[Ueto] By spending time with my friends and talking about personal stuff, of course. The best stress reliever also is to eat some of your favorite dishes.

 

— And what would be your favorite dish at the moment?

[Ueto] Cream puffs! Before I only used to eat Japanese pastry and nothing else, but recently the buffets always had some Western pastry and I grew to like it.

 

— You are appearing in a web movie for a navigation system maker, but how good are you at driving yourself?

[Ueto] I'm in the middle of filming a dorama right now and probably won't have time to drive around for about 3 months. I've actually become a bit scared of it now… (laughs). I actually like to drive around when the streets aren't that congested with traffic, but unfortunately I only would have enough time during the holidays, that's why I always let my elder brother drive. However, I love the space inside the car and driving around while listening to music is so great…

 

— What kind of music?

[Ueto] I'm using an ECLIPSE system as well and always set it up to play some music in the background. RADWIMPS, JUJU and so on. I do like Western music, but in the car I prefer to listen to Japanese music for no special reason.

 

— Any fun driving memories you can tell us?

[Ueto] Once on the freeway I was standing next to King Kong's Nishino Akihiro (laughs) and just recently I was standing next to the car of Takahashi Katsumi. I was like "Huh?" and waved my hand (laughs).

— Are you already an expert in using a navigation system?

[Ueto] I have one that had been in the car from the start and now I even have 2 since I have the privilege of appearing in the commercials of ECLIPSE. I use them both. It's priceless for people who are hopeless when it comes to reading a map, isn't it? (laughs)

 

— You are one of those?

[Ueto] Before, when I wanted to drop by some shop for the first time, I parked the car at some parking area and looked for it on foot. Now I have the new navigation systems and they really guide you until you are able to see the place of destination right in front of you. It's very helpful.
