SMAP's Kimura Takuya (37), actress Aoi Yuu (24) and actor Asano Tadanobu (36) will work together as the voice cast for the Koike Takeshi's anime movie "REDLINE" that will open in October.
Synopsis: The toughest and the most destructive underground car race in the universe, REDLINE, has just begun! JP (Kimutaku) is a reckless driver oblivious to speed limits, and Sonoshee (Aoi), one of his competitors with whom JP is secretly in love with, is a hot girl determined to do whatever it takes to stand on the winner’s podium. In order to win the finals, they’re up against the craziest drivers with their heavily armed and awesome road-tearing vehicles. On top of that, during the race, they have to avoid military crackdown by the government because the race is actually prohibited in Roboworld. The only help JP wants is the engine obtained and custom tuned by his long time buddies, Frisbee (Asano) the mechanic and Mogura Oyaji the junk shop. While cars crash and burn into flames, the race course becomes a merciless hell and JP whips his ride into a dead heat. Who will survive to win in this mass-destruction race?!
It's Kimutaku's 2nd time dubbing an anime since Ghibli's "Howl's Moving Castle" back in 2004 and Aoi also already showed her talent as a voice actress in "Ikechan to Boku" last year. For Asano it will be the first time working as a voice actor.
Movie and CM director Ishii Katsuhito created the original story and explained why he picked those three actors in particular. "For this movie I wanted to get the actors I personally respect the most," he said. Ishii already made various commercials together with Kimutaku like those for "Fujitso FMV" and he even already filmed some music videos with SMAP. "Kimura is an amazing person," he commented about him. Ishii also already worked together with Asano for various movies including the unique "Shark Skin Man and Peach Hip Girl" back in 1999 and Aoi has been one of his favorite actress for many years as well. You could say that he is really looking forward to have his favorite actors lending their voices to the characters he created himself.
Redline came a long way with a seven year long production period and more than 100,000 drawn pictures. Last year the movie already premiered at the 62nd Locarno International Film Festival in Switzerland and received a lot of applause and very good reviews. This fall it's finally going to open in Japan and the new wonderful voice cast will work as a nice compensation for the long time we had to wait for it.
