Actress Miyazaki Aoi (24), Tomizawa Kazato (14) and the rest of the colorful voice cast of the anime "Colorful" attended the preview screening and stage greeting event at the Tokyo City University Todoroki Junior high school and Senior high school in the Setagaya ward of Tokyo. The story is set at a junior high school in the same ward and that's why they decided to hold the event at this location.
The anime is based on a popular novel of the same name by Mori Eto. Some time ago Miyazaki already mentioned that she's a big fan of the novel and that she's more than glad to lend her voice to one of the characters. "I want to read this novel to my children when I become a mother as well. Since it's one of my favorite novels, there also was a lot of pressure during the recording." Around 300 pupils attended the event and Miyazaki had some nice words for them. "Please be always grateful to your parents, try to do a lot of things on your own and become wonderful adults," she said.
The story involves a spirit referred to only as “boku” (me) who has recently died. “Congratulations! You’ve won the lottery!”, an angel informs him. In order to learn from his mistakes and to get a second shot at life, the spirit is put in the body of Makoto, a 14-year-old who recently committed suicide. While his life in this new body is pretty easy at first, it isn’t long before he understands why the previous resident chose his fate, as he’s now stuck in the same situation Makoto was and forced to deal with the confusing eccentricities of his family and friends. However, he eventually begins to think about the true meaning behind this challenge.
Tomizawa lends his voice the protagonist Makoto while Miyazaki dubs one of his classmates. She once again emphasized on the pressure she felt during the recording, "I always worried whether I was the right person for that role and felt a lot of pressure." And about playing a junior high school student in general, she said, "It was difficult, but I think it fit my personality. However, I always had to remind myself to lower my voice to sound like a junior high school student."
Model Minami Akina (21) received a lot of cheers from the audience as well. She compared her own school days to that of Colorful. "I think that there are a couple of similarities between Hiroka-chan's (her role) character and mine… During junior high I wasn't popular at all, in fact, I have never been popular in school since kindergarten," she revealed.
Actress Aso Kumiko (32) also is part of the voice cast and it was her first time working as a voice actress. She's playing a mother in the movie and appealed the pupils with a more serious look. "I think it's a movie that shows how important it is to treasure your life."
Irie Jingi (17) and Nakai Akiyoshi (22) also attended the event. The movie will open on August 21st.
